In his own words
How and why did you end up joining Team Health Net?
I was approached with the opportunity to work with Team Health Net last year (as Assistant Director), and it was a hard one to resist. I was excited about working with the #1 men's team in the country.
What exactly is your role for the team, especially before, during and after races?
Planning travel and logistics before the event, then taking care of the athletes at the races themselves; strategy, information from team car, etc..
Do you have an idea of what your race program will be?
The schedule is layed out pretty well with a mix of Domestic races with a couple of foreign trips.
What are your objectives for the 2008 season?
To ensure continued success of Team Health Net as the #1 team in the US.
Coming into such a successful, do feel like there is extra pressure to get results?
The Pressure is always there no matter how large or small the program. If you don't feel the need to succeed then you should not be in the sport.
What other cycling teams have you worked with in the past as a DS?
I started the Victory Brewing Women's Professional Team.
Coming from the Victory Brewing women's program, what differences do you see between a women's and men's program, other than the obvious?
Well there are little things like; the races for Men are generally longer, men's programs get more media coverage, etc. To be honest, both are equally hungry to succeed; an athlete at this level is very similar, male or female.
What teams did you race for, and what results did you achieve as a racer?
My racing career was short lived due to the fact that I got ill with Ulcerative Colitis in my teen years. I found myself falling into the management role very quickly after trying to pursue racing while ill.
What are your interests outside of cycling?
Well this is a tough one due to lack of time during the season. Usually my couch is calling my name once the travel days are over.
