In his own words

How did you end up working with the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis?

It just so happened that I was going to be free at the end of the 2007 Tour of Georgia and was approached by the team.

Can you describe what your role is for the team, especially before, during and after races?

Before: Get all of the supplies needed for the day in order. Find out of any last minute changes that might be needed. Make sure all the guys get what is needed for the day (food, oil, etc.).

During: Race to the feedzone without getting lost, feed the guys as much as possible if possible. Race to the finish to set up for the guys' arrival. Nap.

After: Get to the hotel and prep as much as possible for the next day before giving rubs. Finish all the supplies needed for the next day after the rubs.

That's basically it. Maybe eat here and there.

From your perspective, what makes a good soigneur?

Someone who can do things fast and organized. Someone who's not afraid to ask questions if there's something not understood regarding what is to happen for the day.

Knowing when to cater to a rider if they're going through a rough patch.

Most important, someone who is not afraid to sleep in the van when needed!

What about from a rider's perspective?

Someone who caters to them 24-7, as if they were a living god or something. I like those guys, they make me laugh.

What other cycling teams have you worked with in the past?

I was with the US National/ VMG effort before coming here.

How/why did you end up working with a professional cycling team in the first place?

I was always helping people in the Austin area with support, motorpacing and other things. So when one of the guys snagged a gig, he asked me to come along with him as the soigneur.

Are you a cyclist yourself?

I've been known to pedal around.

What are your interests outside of cycling?

I didn't know we were allowed to have interests outside of cycling. I guess if I did, it would have to be motorcycles, cooking, some outdoor stuff, and some other stuff I'm sure I don't know about yet.
