In his own words
What is your role for the team?
I manage the organization's creative strategy, produce its visual designs, and collaborate with other management staff to fulfill production needs for team promotion and sponsorship compliance. In addition, I manage the team's online presence (and there's far more to it than what you might see).
What is the greatest challenge you face in that role?
Reconciliations: of conflicting tastes, opinions and visions; of available resources with tangible needs; and of labor time with sometimes killer deadlines.
What is your business/professional background?
I own and operate Eshutter Creative LLC, a graphic design, photography and marketing solutions firm based in Oakland, California. I've been a professional visual artist for over 15 years.
What made you decide to get involved with professional cycling?
The right connections, I suppose. I'm excited to be a part of this organization for a fourth year this season, being an avid cyclist myself and having enjoyed immensely every creative project I've had that is related to cycling -- as sport and as lifestyle.
Have you ever competed as a racer? If so, please list teams, years and any results.
I never regarded myself as a competitive rider, but I did join a Sport class XC MTB race at Sea Otter once with no prior bike racing experience... and was remarkably humbled.
I'm better characterized as a non-competitive distance junkie who's into double centuries and similar endurance events. A budding randonneur, perhaps.
What are your interests outside of cycling?
Art, music and film in all their bold and genius forms. Resolving my inner conflicts between embracing and condemning modern technology. And, generally speaking, figuring new things out.
What are some of your favorite movies?
Amelie, All About My Mother, Fight Club, Tampopo, Amores Perros, Baraka, Smoke Signals, Central Station, Harold and Maude, Party Girl, Tuvalu, Kill Bill, Trainspotting, Lost in Translation, Kieslowski's Trois Couleurs trilogy, good documentaries... I really could go on and on.
And -- admittedly sacrilegous to my cycling self -- I absolutely hate Breaking Away.
