Health Net Presented by Maxxis aggressive in Georgia Stage 1

Savannah, GA - The Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis was active from the early going of a fast Stage 1 of the Tour de Georgia Presented by AT&T.

"The guys were good at covering pretty much everything that moved," said team directeur sportif Mike Tamayo.

That included efforts by Tim Johnson and Matt Crane to get breaks established, as well as Frank Pipp, who ultimately joined the main move of the day, a break of six riders that slipped away just after the mid-point of the 113 km stage, and gained a maximum advantage of just over a minute on the peloton.

However, the sprinters' teams were hot to keep things together for the finale, and the move came back to the peloton with about 5 km to go.

Karl Menzies was the highest placed rider for Health Net Presented by Maxxis in the stage, which was won by Ivan Dominguez (Toyota-United).

"The guys did really well today, and everyone came through feeling good," Tamayo said.
