Menzies gives Health Net Presented by Maxxis its second consecutive stage win to open Toona

Cairnbrook, PA - Karl Menzies of the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis burst out of a pack of nearly 60 riders at the front end of the second stage of the International Tour de Toona to take the sprint victory.

The win puts Menzies back in the yellow leader's jersey he lost under dubious circumstances at last year's edition of the week-long race.

In addition to the misfortune at last year's race, Menzies is riding with extra motivation at 'Toona this year. He only recently returned from his native Tasmania after spending three weeks with his father, who has terminal cancer. "At this point, there's only so much we can do for him," Menzies said. "He told me he wants me back racing. He wants me winning races. That's what I want to do for him."

Menzies' win gives Health Net Presented by Maxxis two victories to open 'Toona, after the team earned the victory in Monday's 17 km team time trial. The team won the TTT in a time of 21:25, 0:11 ahead of Toyota-United. By virtue of him coming across the line first Monday, Nathan O'Neill of Health Net Presented by Maxxis took the race's first yellow jersey, which he gladly handed over to Menzies, after the big man from Tassie earned an eight-second bonus on the line for the win.

Health Net Presented by Maxxis still owns the top four places in the general classification, with Frank Pipp, Rory Sutherland and O'Neill in second through fourth places respectively, all eight seconds back.
