Pipp returns yellow jersey to Milne in Tour of Taiwan

Taipei - Shawn Milne of the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis has the yellow race leader's jersey of the Tour of Taiwan back on his shoulders.

After wearing the jersey for two days following his opening stage win, the jersey passed temporarily to Dean Windsor (Drapac Porsche) and then onto the shoulders of his Health Net Presented by Maxxis teammate, Frank Pipp, who wore it for two days.

But in the race's longest stage at 188 km, the Health Net Presented by Maxxis squad "defended Frank's yellow jersey by sending Shawn out on the attack," said team assistant directeur sportif Mike Tamayo. "(The move) forced the other teams to ride tempo for us."

It also allowed Milne and teammate Kyle Gritters to join a large break that rode away from the peloton and pretty much left them in the dust. The break steadily opened a gap that reached nine minutes by the stage's end.

The result: Pipp handing the leader's jersey back over to Milne, who now holds a solid one-minute advantage in the overall classification, with only a 60 km criterium in downtown Taipei to go on Saturday.

Notes

By virtue of making the break, Kyle Gritters climbed the GC ladder from 29th up to 12th.
