Health Net Presented by Maxxis increases NRC team lead by 200 points with five stage wins at NVGP

Oakland, CA - The Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis rode five stage wins, as well as second and third place overall at the Nature Valley Grand Prix to extend its lead in the NRC team competition to 213 points over Toyota-United.

The biggest contributor to the week's worth of points was Kirk O'Bee, who not only scored his first NRC points of the season, he did it in a big way, with two stage wins, a second place on another stage, and third place overall. His efforts also landed him in ninth place in the individual competition, with 380 points.

Rory Sutherland also made a significant contribution, with second overall, a stage win and a third place as well. He moves into second in the individual competition, 107 points behind Ben Jacques-Maynes (Priority Health).

The team lead likely would have been significantly larger had Nathan O'Neill not been stricken by a bug the morning of the final stage, preventing him from finishing the Grand Prix. He was sitting second overall at the time, and was a safe bet to remain in at least the top five, if not holding second overall.

O'Neill is in seventh place in the individual competition, just ahead of teammate Karl Menzies. Frank Pipp, who scored a stage win and eighth overall at Nature Valley moved up to 11th in the individual competition, giving Health Net Presented by Maxxis five riders in the top 11.

Both O'Bee and Sutherland will be in action Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.
