Silver City, NM - Scott Moninger of the Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis finished second, while teammate Gord Fraser turned in a strong fourth place performance in the opening time trial of the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico.
Chris Baldwin (Toyota-United) gave a glimpse of how he earned the national time trial championship by posting the best time on the hilly, windy 15.7-mile course, finishing in 34:52, 40 seconds ahead of Moninger. Burke Swindlehurst (Navigators) finished third, 1:21 back, while Fraser was another 11 seconds in arrears at 1:32.
Moninger is a two-time champion of the Tour of the Gila. The tour continues Thursday with a 92-mile road race.
